Glorious goddess, the color of the autumn moon,
With three faces and eight hands,

(Repeat this line 3, 7 or 21 times.)
I bow to the one who in all ways brings supreme good fortune,
The one who arises from the crown protuberance of the tathagatas.
Please bless that I and other yogins
Lead lives in harmony with the Dharma.
May our wishes be accomplished.
Cutting off the hordes of sickness, demons, and obstructions,
We pray for your blessing that they be utterly pacified.
A story about this Dharani:
One night the god called Extremely Stable One heard the prophecy of his own death in seven days time. This prophecy specified that he would be born in difficult migrations, and finally in the hell realms. He went to the king of the gods, Indra, for advice and help. Indra went to the Buddha, circumambulated him, made a great offering to him, and told him of the great and unceasing suffering that Extremely Stable One was facing.
Radiating light from his crown pinnacle, the Buddha smiled and said, “There is a mantra called, The Mother of the Supreme Crown Pinnacle, Victorious in All Aspects, Completely Purifying all Bad Migrations. This mantra ends all rebirths with obscurations and suffering. It completely purifies hell realm and animal rebirths and the yama world. It brings sentient beings to the path of happy migrations. As soon as one hears it, obscurations are purified, various types of suffering end, and one achieves a continuity of completely pure births. As soon as this mantra is recited, a person whose life is finishing will receive extended life, engage in pure actions of body, speech, and mind, and abide in happiness. Moreover, all the tathagatas will always protect and guide them.”
King Indra then begged the Buddha to give this mantra for the benefit of living beings. Thereupon the Buddha radiated brilliant light from his crown pinnacle, and the goddess Usnisavijaya arose from this light and proclaimed this mantra. The Buddha thereafter said, “This mantra was taught by all the Buddhas so that all sentient beings will become happy. Especially, this mantra abides in the world for sentient beings who have shortage of life and many diseases, who have degenerated minds, and who have deviated on the path. Due to the power of this mantra, beings will achieve completely pure births up until the heart of enlightenment is achieved. It is powerful and of great benefit. It is like a precious jewel or the essence of the sun. It is extremely unstained like the sky. It radiates completely pure, clear illuminating light rays. Sentient beings who recite it, write it, memorize it, listen to it, preserve it, have any contact with it, or keep it will never turn away from the highest complete enlightenment.”
“To benefit someone whose life is almost finished, on the fifteenth day wash yourself and wear clean clothes, abide in the eight precepts, and recite this mantra one thousand times. The sentient being whose life is almost finished will receive an extended life span, will be free of disease, will achieve the cessation of obscurations, and will be liberated from bad migrations such as hell realm rebirths, and so forth.”
“At the very least, one should recite this mantra in the ears of animals, and this will then be their last bad migration. For sentient beings who have died, recite the mantra twenty-one times and blow on mustard seeds for their sake, and throw the mustard seeds over the bones of those dead sentient beings. If you do so, those sentient beings will not be born in the hell realms, as animals, as inhabitants of the yama world, or in preta places. Instead of bad migrations, they will be born in the realms of the devas.”
Then King Indra took what was taught by the Buddha and gave this mantra to the deva son Extremely Stable One. The deva son recited this mantra six times by day and six times by night for seven days. He was liberated from bad migrations, completely abided on the path of happiness, and received a long life.
In Sanskrit this Dharani is known as: Arya Sattva Dugatha Pari Shodani Maha Batsaya Nama Dharani (In English: Dharani of the Mother of the Supreme Crown Pinnacle, Victorious in All Aspects, Completely Purifying All Bad Migrations).
